The Isolated Track Challenge

(All site content is intended for purely educational purposes.)

If you are a music lover with a one-track mind, this exercise is for you. This is a self-checking quiz that also provides the answers (see below*).

It is often easy to name a popular song from ten or more seconds of audio. The question is... can you do it one instrument at a time?

Below are twenty-five snippets of music, each one extracted from an isolated track (stem) of a very well-known rock or pop song.
The represented tracks span the 60s through the 90s. These songs have all gotten significant radio or video exposure.
These clips can be from any part of the song (beginning, end, or anywhere in between). You may find some to be more obvious than others.
However, you might also hear a track that got buried in the final mix of the recording.

*Click or tap on each link in the first column to play that clip, and name the song that it comes from.
If you need a (possibly) helpful hint to narrow things down a bit, click or tap on the question mark for a clue.
If all else fails and you are hopelessly stumped, click or tap on the play button in the last column to hear the solution.
